Gaden Trout Hatchery

Gaden Hatchery, on the Thredbo River near Jindabyne, is one of Australia's main centres for breeding and rearing of cold water sport fish.
Four species of fish are produced at Gaden: Atlantic salmon, brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout. Visitors can view feeding of the big fish that come to the surface in the crystal clear display pond. Guided tours of the hatchery are conducted from 10am daily. The tour, conducted by experienced Fisheries staff, includes the facility, breeding tanks, aquariums with the four species of fish and exhibits. A 12-minute video, presented in a 100 seat theatrette outlines the hatchery's purpose and operation.

Gaden Hatchery has over one hectare of parkland on the banks of the Thredbo River. Coin operated barbecues and picnic shelters are available. Fishing is not permitted at the hatchery.

Individual, school and group visitors are welcome all year except Christmas Day. A small entry fee applies.
