Transylvania Winery and Restaurant

Transylvania Winery was established by Peter and Maria Culici, a Rumanian couple who had escaped from communist controlled south Easter Europe in the late 20th century. They ended up in Australia and like many others settled in this region where already some 65 ethnic groups had made a hom.

Peter saw the soil was similar to that in his father's vineyard in Sylvania wehre he had worked. In 1986, after researching the possibility of establishing their own vineyard and planted an experimental crop of 300 vines.

From this rich history, Transylvania Winery has prospered and their famous Eis wine is picked late in the season after the Monaro's early frosts have reduced the size of the grapes and condensed the juice until it becomes like honey.

Transylvanian grapes are grown organically, protected from pests by geese, plastic soda bottles and chickens.

Besides tasting the cold climate wines and famous Cherry Brandy you can also enjoy some traditional Romanian food served in the restaurant.
