Bredbo

Bredbo has always been a favoured stopping point for travellers. During the Kiandra Gold Rush, Bredbo became a safe haven from bushrangers and an overnight stop for the gold coach.

Today Bredbo continues to offer travellers a warm and friendly welcome and genuine country hospitality. The Bredbo Inn is a popular starting point to meet the locals and gain a wealth of regional knowledge and history. Notables such as Anthony Horden, Mark Foy and Banjo Paterson were all regulars to Bredbo and the Inn. During one visit Banjo Paterson reputedly told the publican that local horseman Charlie McKeachnie was the 'Man from Snowy River' but added that 'there was more than one of them, you know'.

One of the earliest settlers in the Bredbo district, John Cosgrove of Billilingera, was believed to be the largest landholder in southern New South Wales. In one year 68,000 sheep were shorn in the Billilingera shearing shed.

The original General Store (now the Bredbo Pancake and Crepe Restaurant) was built in 1903.

Today there are about 200 residents in the village of Bredbo; the community is small but thriving.
