Cycling and mountain biking
Using pedal power is a great way to make the most of the mountains, whose quiet country roads and scenic trails make cycling a joy. Riding out to a lake for a swim in summer makes for a great family outing.
The legendary Cannonball Run is located at Thredbo. You can hire a bike and head off to explore the Cascade Fire Trail, take a trip down to Tom Groggin or armour up for the Cannonball. Instruction, hire, maps and advice are available from www.rawnrg.com.au
For information on trails and upcoming weather conditions contact a local visitor information centre.
The Snowy Region Visitor Centre can also provide detailed maps (at a cost) and information on trails which are recommended for any mountains biking in the national park. Ph: 1800 004 439
You can enjoy a more toe-tingling experience mountain biking through the Snowies. Take a short cut up via the Crackenback and Snowgums chairlift (open to bikers from November to mid May) then zoom downhill on the back of your bike.
