Dear friends,
After some gentle persuasion, my husband agreed to come with me to try snow shoeing.
We hired our snowshoes from a local ski hire shop for a modest price and headed up to Smiggin Holes, where we were greeting by beautiful big snowflakes.
We took lunch in backpacks, ski poles (good to have but not mandatory) and wore our waterproof leather walking boots. We strapped on our snow shoes and we were off. So easy! Simply walking on the thick carpet of fresh snow no slipping or sliding because of the metal teeth on the snow shoes. And of course you don't sink in.
We sat on low snow-gum branches for lunch while the light snow settled around us. We were alone in this scenic sheltered spot but could hear the faint noise of the downhill ski slopes in the distance.
After lunch we traveled around one of the well marked cross country trails. There were so many opportunities to take photos of ice trimmed trees and snowscapes.
Now we're hooked. Next time we might try the dedicated snowshoe track at Perisher or maybe beyond Thredbo to Dead Horse Gap or around Selwyn Snowfields!
Come and join us!
