Snowy Hydro
A visit to one of Snowy Hydro's hydroelectric power stations is a must. The sheer scale of the project has deservedly taken on legendary status and is a jewel in the crown of the nation's post war development.
The Scheme is one of the engineering wonders of the modern world. With seven power stations, two of which are underground, 16 major dams and over 140 kilometres of transmountain tunnels it is a symbol of Australian endeavour at its best.
The Snowy Scheme, which covers an area of 3200 square kilometres, was built over 25 years by a multi-cultural workforce that numbered more than 100,000.
The Snowy Hydro's Information Centre in Cooma provides information about the scheme and assists visitors in planning itineraries. Tollfree: 1800 623 776 or visit: www.snowyhydro.com.au
