Tourism Snowy Mountains TSM is the regional tourism organisation RTO for the Snowy Mountains region. The region includes the entire Kosciuszko National Park and covers the Local Government Areas  LGA of: 

  • Snowy River Shire Council
  • Cooma-Monaro Shire Council
  • Tumbarumba Shire Council
  • Tumut Shire Council Shire

TSM OVERVIEW

TSM aims to unite the industry and stakeholders through effective leadership and achieve tourism economic growth by creating opportunities for the region as a whole. This is achieved by strong partnerships with key industry operators, regional and government stakeholders.

TSM provides tourism leadership to the region and its key roles are:

  • Represent the whole of tourism industry.
  • Develop cooperative partnerships to increase visitation to the snowy mountains.
  • To work with Tourism NSW to deliver opportunities for operators.
  • To motivate people to come to the Snowies as a destination.
  • Work close with private enterprise, communities and all government agencies to enhance opportunities.
  • Increase skills/capacity within the tourism sector.

 TSM VISION

 The Snowy Mountains will be the most rewarding experience for all stakeholders

To deliver on this vision TSM’S external focus is:

  • Lift and maintain the profile of the Snowy Mountains Region with Federal, State and Local Governments and their agencies to ensure that the Snowy Mountains region is top of mind as tourism destination.
  • Be a spokesperson for the Snowy Mountains Region on regional tourism issues.
  • Identify and leverage funding opportunities as they arise for the benefit of the Snowy Mountains region.

The operational role is to:

  • provide leadership and direction to the regional tourism industry.
  • develop and encourage innovative activities including marketing campaigns that maintain brand awareness and encourage increased visitation.
  • foster and encourage product development in the region advise, consult and partner with Federal and State Government Agencies, Local Government and major stakeholders to facilitate the growth and sustainability of the region’s tourism economy.

Organisation Structure

A full time Chief Executive Officer,  Peter Sheppard is TSM’s main driver, reporting directly to the board and working with local industry, tourism managers, Tourism NSW and other key stakeholders to market the destination both domestically and internationally. TSM also employs a part time Administration Assistant and Project Officer.

TSM is managed by a 6 member, skills based board and 5 industry representatives. Present at Board meetings is a non voting observer representing Destination NSW and Trade and Investment NSW.

Board & Executive Profiles

David Sheldon

Chair

David brings to the Board extensive marketing, media and small business experience. He owns and operates the award-winning, luxury accommodation, Elm Cottage, near Tumut.

David has many years experience as a Board Member of local and regional tourism organisations. He is firmly committed to developing tourism portfolios at both State and Federal levels and has been an active Australian Regional Tourism Network (ARTN) member for a number of years. David was Chairman, Forum of Regional Tourism Organisation (FORTO) and was recently elected Chairman of Australian Regional Tourism Network (ARTN).

Wayne Kirkpatrick

Deputy Chair

A former Director of Tourism Tasmania and Tourism Australia, Wayne has also held CEO roles at Hamilton Island and Ayers Rock Resort. He is currently member of an advisory group to Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and Deputy Chair of Thredbo Chamber of Commerce. Wayne runs his own investment company based in Thredbo.

Janette Raedel

Treasurer

Janette is currently Manager of Discovery Holiday Parks, Jindabyne, and has over 25 years experience in small business and caravan park management. This includes a senior role in one of Australia’s largest caravan resorts, Adelaide Shores, a semi-government organisation. During this time, Janette has been actively involved with numerous tourism industry associations such as Top Tourists Parks of Australia, BIG4, CCIA, CRVA & Caravan Parks Association of SA.

Joan Bird

Director

Owner Operator of Snow Escape Holidays and Last Run in Jindabyne, Joan is a passionate proponent of tourism growth across the whole Snowy Mountains region.

Peter Brulisauer

Director

As CEO of Perisher Blue Pty Ltd, Peter operates the largest snow resort in the southern hemisphere. He is a Director, and past Chair, of Australian Ski Areas Association. Peter holds degrees in Commerce and Laws and recently completed Harvard Business School’s General Management Program.

Wayne Hart

Director

An environmental scientist with a strong interest in eco-tourism, Wayne holds an MBA and has extensive Board Member and CEO experience in commercial and not-for-profit sectors.

Jordan Rodgers

Director

As General Manager of Kosciuszko Thredbo Pty Limited, Jordan Rodgers, was appointed to the Board in September 2012. Jordan has significant experience in the tourism industry holding senior roles in the attractions and hospitality sectors. Prior to joining Thredbo, his previous positions have included CEO, AMF Bowling Australia, a division of Ardent Leisure Limited, General Manager, InterContinental Sydney, and Director of Development for Rydges Hotels & Resorts.

Deb Paton

Director – Shire Councils Representative

As Tourism Promotion Officer, Tumbarumba Shire Council, Deb has extensive experience of tourism across Snowy Mountains region.

Heath Woolley

Director – Snowy Hydro Representative

With almost 20 years experience in management roles within the tourism industry, Heath is currently Manager, Snowy Hydro Visitor Centres, where he is responsible for locations at Cooma, Cabramurra and Khancoban. His experience also includes seven years with Tourism Western Australia where Heath managed Western Australian Visitor Centres. Additionally, Heath was a committee member of the Visitor Centre Association of WA.

Peter Cochran

Director – Chambers of Commerce Representative

With ancestry in Snowy Mountains spanning more than 160 years, Peter Cochran brings a passion for the heritage of the region to the Board. As principal of Cochran Horse Treks, Peter is active in developing unique experiences in the wilderness, growing the visitor economy of the whole region and in addressing community issues. He is a former Mayor of Cooma-Monaro Shire Council and member of New South Wales Legislative Assembly. Peter actively represents the interests of the region’s Chambers of Commerce.

Diana Kahui

Non-Voting Director – Destination NSW Representative

Diana is Director- Digital at Destination NSW. Her role on the Board is one of observer.

 

Tourism Snowy Mountains Personnel

Peter Sheppard

CEO

Peter joined Tourism Snowy Mountains in April 2012 after an international search for the RTO’s first CEO. He has an extensive background in business, tourism marketing and international event development with over 25 years in senior roles within major attractions, international events, destinations, media networks, listed entities and marketing agencies. From concept creation, master planning, project implementation to operational management, Peter has earned a reputation for both creative and commercial outcomes.

Previous roles have included Executive Director of Melbourne’s $100 million Southern Star observation wheel development, General Manager, Queensland Events Corporation, Sales and Marketing Director, Dreamworld, Chief Executive and Deputy Commissioner, Queensland Pavilion at World Expo 88, Executive Director, Star Broadcasting Network, Marketing Advisor to Queensland Government and CEO, Black Ink Y&R.

His credits also include establishment of Gold Coast Indy Grand Prix and Committee of Brisbane, development of Visit Malaysia Year 2007 international events program, launch of Melbourne Docklands destination precinct and creation of iconic international tourism campaigns including, “Queensland: Beautiful One Day – Perfect The Next”.

Jacqui Percy

Administration Manager

With a background in small business management in Australia and North America, Jacqui joined Tourism Snowy Mountains in May 2012. Immediately prior to her arrival in Snowy Mountains, she was Department Supervisor of Schwarzkopf Professional (a division of Henkel Australia) where she managed national customer relations, trade education, seminars and events program, and technical hotline.
