Kick start your fitness with a trip to the mountains and get well-thy

We live in an always on 24/7 world, we are busy, we have jobs and family commitments. It is common for people to say they can never find time to get well-thy. The reality for most of us in today’s modern world is to travel from one box to the next. We sleep inside, we eat inside, we step into our cars and drive to the office, we drive home from the office, finish our day relaxing around the house and do it all over again. Our modern lifestyle has developed to the point where going outside has become an “option”. A whole week may come and go without ever being in the fresh air. The answer may be a trip to the Snowy’s.

Top 5 ways to get fit and healthy in the mountains.

1. Walk your way to wellness.

Walking is proven to help to keep you fit, walking helps you to lose weight, and walking helps you to keep that weight off. Walking is also extremely beneficial for the health of your heart. In fact, a recent Harvard study shows that walking at a moderate pace (3 miles per hour / 4.8 km per hour) for 30 minutes a day can cut the risk of heart disease in women by as much as 40%.

A journey to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko or an adventure to any of the alpine lakes in the Snowy’s will give you an amazing sense of freedom and achievement.

2. Find yourself Fishing.

A key part in being fit and healthy is ensuring you reduce your stress. What better way than learning to relax with a fishing rod in your hand. Fishing is more than just a hobby it gets you outside and enables you to appreciate the beauty around you. You get the sense of excitement when you head out and can get a sense of peace and contentment coming back (with or without fish). Try your luck on Thredbo River or Lake Jindabyne.

3. Use some Pedal Power

Bike riding is a fabulous sport, not only is it low impact, but it burns calories, plus it is something the whole family can do together. There are plenty of scenic routes in the Snowy’s pack a picnic and head out for an adventure. And if you are feeling a litte more adventurous try Mountain Biking on Thredbo Mountain.

4. Hop on a horse

Riding in the mountains is a must, especially as it is the home of “The Man from Snowy River”. Being on a horse enables you to explore the outdoors, but it also helps with your strength and balance. The ability to stand up in your stirrups and control a horse can give you an all over workout.

5. Climb in a Canoe

Fancy some watersport fun? Climb in a canoe to burn those calories and build upper body strength. Lake Jindabyne or Khancoban Pondage is an ideal location for canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing or sailing.
